The original World of Goo launched in 2008, won the public’s love and became one of the first notable indie hits in the modern sense of the word. Sixteen years later, a sequel appeared – and it doesn’t seem to have hit the dirt at all.
The essence remains the same: there are little eyeballed lumps of tuggers who want to get to the exit. You have to build a special construction out of the lumps and pull them to a special pipe through all the hardships. What is happening is seasoned with Tomorrow Corporation’s trademark humor.
Among the main features of the sequel stand out:
New types of pullers – exploding, jelly, liquid, growing, shrinking and so on. All pulls have mysterious new properties.
Dozens of fresh songs on the soundtrack.
A story spanning “hundreds of thousands of years”, made up of five chapters and 60 levels. Each level has additional challenges.
World of Goo 2 already has its first ratings in the press – 85 out of 100 at the time of writing the news. Reviewers are calling the game a fantastic sequel that is bursting with a variety of ideas. There are complaints about the meager options and under-revealed mechanics, but the pros far outweigh the modest cons.
World of Goo 2 is available on PC (Epic Games Store, developer website) and Nintendo Switch. There are text translations in Russian and Ukrainian.
